FAQs

  • There’s a wonderful quote by the British psychoanalyst Wilfred Bion that goes like this: “Some silences are nothing, they are 0, zero. But sometimes that silence becomes a pregnant one; it turns into 101 – the preceding and succeeding sounds turn it into a valuable communication, as with rests and pauses in music, holes and gaps in sculpture.” I think this speaks a little to how meaningful and powerful just sitting there can be — possible opportunities.

I’ll speak when I have something of value to say about what I’m observing. Mostly, I’ll be listening closely to what you’re saying and doing, and not saying and doing.

  • We’ll talk about whatever comes to your mind. Whatever is significant to you in the present, from the past, and about the future. We’ll discuss your dreams (both waking and nighttime ones, and aspirational), daily occurrences, fears, to name a few things.

As a whole, the process of revisiting memories, talking through things, and experiencing emotions in the present is the work of therapy.

  • Duration of treatment varies upon you and what you hope to achieve from the process. I work in an open-ended way and will provide you with my recommendation on duration, but it is ultimately up to you.

Some people work with me nearly daily for years, while others come once a week for a few months. On the whole, I would recommend a minimum of six months.

Over the course of treatment, we can check in where you’re at in the process and see where you would like to move on from there.

  • Sessions are conducted both in-person and virtually using a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

I am a licensed service provider in the states of New York, Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Georgia.

  • Not to fear! That’s okay — match is one of the most important ingredients in effective therapeutic work. It might be best to meet two to three times. If you truly feel we’re not a good match, or I feel I do not have something to offer you, I will help you find another clinician to appropriately meet your needs and desires.

  • If you have out-of-network insurance benefits, part or all of your therapy may be covered by your insurance plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking your insurance company the following questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

    • Do I have a deductible? How much is it and how much has been met?

    • What percentage of the therapy fee is covered?

    • How many sessions are covered per year?

Please note: With out-of-network coverage, it is your responsibility to pay for each session on the day of your appointment. I will provide a receipt you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement from them.

  • Please contact me to discuss my fees.

I do offer a sliding scale. This means that if my full fee is prohibitive, we can review your situation together and discuss options for a reduced fee. If I am not able to accommodate your needs, I will help you find a therapist who can.

Please note that at this time, all my sliding scale slots are full.

  • Congress has enacted a law - the 'No Surprises Act' - that entitles you to an estimate of the costs of your treatment. This act was intended for hospital procedures, but it nonetheless applies to your work with me. When we meet, we'll agree on a fee, and a frequency, and you should expect to pay me my fee for each scheduled session.
